There’s a quiet shift happening in leadership right now.
The conversations I’m having behind closed doors sound very different than they did even a year ago.
High-performing leaders—capable, experienced, driven—are asking: “Why does this feel so heavy?”
The pressure has increased. The resources have decreased. And the expectation? Deliver more. Faster. With less.
This is the breeding ground for burnout.
But here’s where I challenge the narrative…
Burnout isn’t just about workload. It’s about the absence of joy, meaning, and sustainable energy in how we lead.
This week, I revisited The Happiness Equation by Neil Pasricha.
At its core, the message is simple but confronting:
Happiness isn’t something we earn after success. It’s a practice we build into how we live and lead.
And yet—most leadership models still get this backwards.
They focus on:
- Metrics over meaning
- Output over energy
- Performance over sustainability
That works… for a while.
Until it doesn’t.
What Most Business Coaching Gets Wrong
Let’s be honest.
A lot of business coaching is still rooted in:
- “Push harder”
- “Optimize more”
- “Track the numbers”
And yes—those matter.
But numbers don’t lead teams. People do.
And people who are exhausted, disconnected, and operating on empty don’t create sustainable growth.
They create short-term results with long-term cost.
A Different Approach to Growth
What I’ve learned—after years in leadership, coaching, and change management—is this:
You don’t solve burnout by doing less.
You solve it by leading differently.
That means:
- Reclaiming your strengths (instead of overcompensating for weaknesses)
- Building systems that support energy—not just output
- Intentionally integrating moments of joy, meaning, and progress into your leadership rhythm
Not as an afterthought.
As a strategy.
This Is the Work of a Flourishing Leader
The Flourishing Leader is a 12-week Positive Psychology coaching experience designed to help leaders:
- Reconnect with how they actually want to lead
- Build confidence in decision-making without constant second-guessing
- Create sustainable performance—for themselves and their teams
- And yes… rediscover their joie de vivre in the process
This program wasn’t built in theory.
It’s grounded in:
- Formal certification in Positive Psychology through Efficient Coach
- Hundreds of hours of applied coaching
- Real-world leadership and change management experience
Because growth shouldn’t come at the expense of your well-being.
And leadership shouldn’t feel like something you have to survive.
A Better Standard
If you’re leading right now, you’re likely carrying more than ever before.
But more pressure doesn’t have to mean more depletion.
Recently, I worked with a leader who had been trying to make a move internally for years—with no traction.
On paper, she was doing everything right. High performance. Strong reputation. Consistent results.
But she was exhausted—and increasingly disconnected from the work.
Instead of pushing harder inside the same system, we shifted the focus.
We pulled her strengths forward. Got clear on what actually energized her. And challenged the assumption that her next move had to exist within her current organization—or even her current industry.
That’s where the real shift happened.
She made a pivot into a completely different industry—one aligned with her strengths and what she genuinely enjoyed about her work. Within 4 months she secured a new role with an 18% increase in her salary in a company whose values aligned even better with her own.
Not a reactive move. A strategic one.
Today, she’s not just performing—she’s engaged again. Decisive. Energized. Clear.
Same capability. Different alignment.
That’s the difference.
There is a way to:
- Grow the business
- Lead effectively
- And feel energized by the work you’re doing
That’s not idealistic.
It’s intentional.
